Northallerton's Economy & Society
Northallerton rests near to the North Yorkshire Moors, in close proximity to the Yorkshire Dales National Park, making it a perfect place to visit for tourists from all over the country. Tourism thus makes up some of the town's economy, with a wide variety of independent shops, ranging from a unique delicatessen, a large department store, and a chocolatiers nestling down our 19th Century arcade.
Despite a thriving tourism industry, much of our local economy derives from agriculture, with Northallerton being bordered by field upon field. The town holds a twice weekly market that dates back to the 11th century, selling local produce, crafts and regional goods, and the Town Hall hosts a country market every Friday morning, in addition there is a farmers market on either the third or last Wednesday in every month.
