June Darrah and John Robert Cooper (Bobby) June was awarded the honour because of all her good works within the community, helping with Oxfam, the Mental Health Support Group, Age Concern and Meals on Wheels. She was also awarded an MBE for her services to the WRVS.

R.F.Barratt Robert was selected for this honour because of his commitment to the musical life of the town, When the Northallerton Male Voice Choir was founded in 1968, with bob at its helm as conductor. He used his role within the choir to raise large amounts of money for various charities.

A. Elizabeth Eleanor McDougle (Nanice)M.B.E. F.L.A. Nancie was one of the founding members of the Allertonshire Civic Society, whose devotion to the community as a librarian has been rightly recognised by this award.

Norman Cuthbert Bryning M.B.E. Norman lived past 100, which is an achievement in itself, but he was also a devoted head teacher at the Allertonshire School. (June 1997)

William Wake was a committed member of the Town Council, and as a result devoted much of his time to improving the town. He was the first person to get this prestigious award, and also has a room named after him in the Town Hall.
