Town Twinning  French Flag

     Northallerton and Ormesson-Sur-Marne

Northallerton has been twinned with Ormesson-Sur-Marne since 1993.

Town twinning has long been an important mechanism for developing active European citizenship and a sense of shared identity. For most councils, in addition to trading links, the first significant form of international partnership came about through the twinning movement.  Widely promoted at the end of the Second World War to contribute to peace and reconciliation, twinning has evolved to meet the needs of contemporary life styles in the twenty first century. With origins firmly rooted in friendship and culture, we are proud to be twinned as a town with Ormesson-Sur-Marne.

Chateau at Ormesson
Ormesson-sur-marne is a beautiful suburb of Paris, managing to maintain a fantastic environment of lush greenery, despite being just 10 miles from the centre of its capital. The above picture of the towns chateau reflects the culture of the town, and the shared importance in preserving heritage that our partnership believes in. The chateau dates back to 1580, like much of Northallerton. The town has a great deal to offer, with cultural events going on throughout the year.
